Twenty-four years ago I entered the UK from South Africa. Accompanied by a back pack and the latest copy of how to travel Europe on a shoe string, I was in search of something different. I continued to work and travel around the world in search of something that I could not find. Bad decision after bad decision, I ended up with a career I was unhappy with and indulged in an array of destructive behavior's to cope with my discomfort.
Fourteen years into this chaotic journey, I decided it was time to do something different. After working with a patient and empathic therapist the search was over. I had the answers all along, I just needed the guidance to find them and the courage to change.
Finding my answers inspired me to want to help others find theirs. I trained as an Addictions Therapist and to this day still love working with this client group. Seeing people from an array of backgrounds, live their best lives and make positive change, is a true privilege.
Working with addiction requires looking deeper than just the addiction. Addiction is often the coping strategy for other underlying issues. These may be: abuse, mental health, self-esteem, stress, loss, LGBTQ+ issues, anxiety, depression, attachment disorders and trauma. I have gained vast knowledge, training and experience in these areas.
A growing number of clients on my case load present with symptoms of trauma, some have been diagnosed with PTSD, I offer evidenced based therapies to help reduce the symptoms of trauma as recommended by the nice guidelines.
